Roxio's Toast 9 TitaniumYou really can't go wrong with Toast 9 Titanium
Along with data disc burning, you also have the ability to burn music discs (Audio CDs, Music DVDs, MP3 Discs and Enhanced Audio CDs) in the "Audio" tab; you can burn video DVDs (DVD, Blu-Ray, HD-DVD, DivX), as well as DVDs from VIDEO_TS Folders and Compilations and HD-DVD or Blu-Ray discs from HVDVD_TS folders in the "Video" tab; you can duplicate discs, burn image files to disc and even create discs with image files readable on both Windows and Mac from the "Copy" tab; and finally, you can convert DVD-Videos (non-copy protected), video contained in image files, VIDEO-TS folders and other video and audio formats to a variety of different video file formats in the "Convert" tab. The amount of things you can do with T9T is staggering, and one feature that video editors will get a lot of use out of is the converting of DVD-Videos (non-copy protected) to QuickTimes to use in their timelines. I know I definitely will. Every aspect of using T9T is simple and anyone, beginner or advanced, will be up and running with it in minutes.
When I was breaking down the new features of T9T, I included a few "features" that were not actually features at all, they were actually full programs that are included in the T9T package. Let's take a quick look at what else you get.
Get Backup RE
Do you need to back up files on your computer? No problem with Get Backup RE. Simply create a new "Project," select the folders or locations you want backed up, select your destination folder (or even destination CD/DVD/Blu-Ray disc), and you are all set to go! You can even set up a daily, weekly or monthly schedule to back up anything you want on your computer. Perfect for the shutterbug or audiofile who wants to make sure their photos or music are backed up on a regular basis.
CD Spin Doctor
This is another great backup program, but this one is designed to capture all of your old LPs, cassette tapes, or any other audio source that can be plugged into your computer. CD Spin Doctor guides you through setting up your equipment, checking to make sure the signal is present, recording, splitting the LP (or tape) up into tracks and even adding song information. The best part is that once you are done, you can "One-click" the information to Toast for burning or to iTunes for your iPod. Probably my favorite feature of CD Spin Doctor is the capability to "live record" from iTunes, or any other audio source (i.e.-Internet website, etc), and then send the final records to Toast, or again to iTunes for your iPod. Other than Toast itself, this program is the one that I'll get the most use out of.
Disc Cover 2 RE
Well, we're burning discs, so why should we not have access to another simple, easy-to-use program that we can make labels with? Disc Cover 2 not only has more than 40 templates for you to start out with, but you can easily create your own, and then either print it to commercial paper, a direct-to-disc printer or even a LightScribe supported drive.
Disc Catalog Maker RE
Now that you are cranking out all these DVDs, you should have a way to organize and catalog all of your discs and their contents. No problem with Disc Catalog Maker. With this program you can catalog your discs, and even your own hard drives quick and easy. No need to say to your clients "Give me a minute while I find it".
Want to take your TiVo or EyeTV television recordings on the road with you? Use your Mac to stream your recorded television shows across the internet via Roxio's streaming server, and access them via Wi-Fi on your iPhone or iPod Touch, or via web browser on your Mac or PC.
Transfer all of your favorite TiVo recordings to your Mac, and remove those pesky commercials so you can enjoy uninterrupted movies or shows in SD or HD at the click of the button on your computer, or quickly flip the file over to Blu-Ray, DVD, PSP or even iPhone format to take with you on the road!
Toast Video Player
This is the application you use to edit the commercials out of your TiVo show (Eye TV, AVCHD, etc), or to do any other video editing on files you want to burn to DVD or send to a portable device. Once your crop markers are input, you are taken back to Toast and the edits will immediately be reflected inside your Toast project.
For me, I can easily see myself using Get Backup, CD Spin Doctor, Disc Cover and Disc Catalog Maker on a regular basis, and adding these into the T9T package is a huge bonus that makes the purchase of this package a no brainer.
- Any type of burning you could need is included in T9T
- Universal Binary & Leopard compatible
- Very easy for anyone to use
- $79 after mail-in rebate
- HD-DVD/Blu-ray support is an additional $20
- TiVo & EyeTV support is awesome, assuming you have TiVo or EyeTV
Purchase Recommendation: Buy
At the end of the day, you really can't go wrong with Toast 9 Titanium. Toast itself is a great DVD burning package that gives you an exceptional amount of options for any and all of your burning needs, and the addition of all the extra programs makes this a $79 you won't mind spending, it's just too bad that Roxio is charging an extra $20 for the HD-DVD/Blu-Ray plug-in. For more information or to purchase Toast 9 Titanium, you can head over to www.roxio.com.
