In a major expansion, Music Orange has relocated to an all-new, state-of-the-art recording studio, the only recording facility in the Bay Area dedicated solely to music production for television advertising. The 5,000 square foot site features three control rooms and two live rooms, plus a lounge and ample client workspace. The live rooms are set up for recording to picture and are large enough to accommodate a chamber orchestra or large jazz band.

The move was predicated by growing demand for the companys original music production services. Founded in 2003 by executive producer Blaise Smith, composer Michael Lande and composer/engineer Hector Pérez, Music Orange has become San Franciscos largest producer of music for advertising, with recent credits including spots for Mikes Hard Lemonade (McCann-Erickson), Chevron (Young & Rubicam), Fox Sports (Chiat/Day) and Hotwire (McCann-Erickson). It also recently produced music for the Electronics Arts video game The Urbz, featuring Black Eyed Peas, and has just wrapped a 12-spot campaign for Foster Farms through agency Young & Rubicam.

?We had clearly outgrown our former site by the end of last year and wanted to create a new space appropriate to the number of projects we do and the national caliber of our work, said Smith, best known as the composer of the theme music to SpongeBob SquarePants. ?This space allows us to record to picture with virtually any setting with clients on hand interacting with our composers and musicians.

Smith added that the space will also allow the company to pursue further expansion. Music Orange is aiming to grow its involvement in sound design, as well as its music supervision and licensing business. Since its founding, the company has amassed a large music library spanning a wide variety of musical genres. The company has produced a series of sampler CDs, the latest featuring some 200 tracks.

The new recording studio was designed by acoustic designer Carl Yanchar of Wave Space. The three control rooms each feature similar set-ups, with key components including Apple G5s running the latest Digidesign ProTools hardware, Yamaha 02R consoles and large plasma displays.

Along with Smith, Lande, and Pérez, Music Oranges staff includes music supervisor/producer Tyler Reed. The companys hallmark is its ability to create unique and exceptional music in a variety of styles, from swing jazz and alternative rock to nortenő and hip hop. For one of the Spanish-language spots promoting Foster Farms, the company employed a mariachi band.

Additionally, the company has strong ties to the wider music community in the Bay Area and Los Angeles. Music Orange has collaborated with the avant garde string quartet Kronos Quartet, electronic dance music pioneers Jondi & Spesh and Grammy-winning jazz saxophonist Joshua Redman.

Music Orange is located at 1 Icehouse, San Francisco, California 94111. For more information, call (415) 398-6264 or visit
