Hidden Tricks in iDVD 5, Part 4

Changing highlight colors on buttons
Double-click this file to open it up in the Property List Editor application. You'll see a window that looks something like this (though not necessarily exactly like this).

If the file you opened contains an entry labeled "highlightColorRGBA," this you need only modify the values that are stored on the right-hand side to enter in your new highlight color. If it does not have this, you need to create it. Select one of the existing items in the list, and click the "Create Sibling" button at the top of the window. This will ad a new entry tot he document.

Rename this new entry highlightColorRGBA (with this exact capitalization).

Then double-click the corresponding field on the right and enter the RGBA values for the highlight color you wish to use. Pure red, for example, would be 255,0,0,255. You can also adjust the opacity of the highlight by changing the A value. For example, 255,0,0,127 would be a pure red, but only half-way visible over the buttons in your menu. In my case, I'll apply a sort of mauve with the values 200,100,100,255.

When you've entered the value for the color, just save the file.

Step 3: Applying the highlight color for the first time
Now, back in iDVD, you'll have to do just a couple things before your color change takes effect on your highlights. The first is to apply one of the themes you created in the first step of this tutorial. Make sure you apply the one to which you DID NOT make the color change. I made my change to Dave 2, so I'll apply Dave 1 to my menu.

Then save the file, and quit iDVD.

Finally, relaunch iDVD 5, and apply the second theme you created, the one that you made the modification to. Now the new highlight color will take effect.
