Photoshop: Custom Brushes, Series 18 25 nature-themed background brushes By Dave Nagel Most of our brush collections for Adobe Photoshop to date have been along the lines of natural media emulators and abstract pattern creators. This time around, however, the brushes are a bit less general, offering a range of images from nature designed to create deep, complex backgrounds or decorative borders out of objects like flowers, butterflies, leaves and the like.

The brushes
Our collection this week (Nagel Series 18 Brushes) includes 25 such decorative brushes. Rather than creating a bunch of variations on just a small number of source images, most of the brushes in this collection use their own, unique source images, which means you'll have about 20 different nibs to play around with and customize for your needs. At the default settings, the brushes are designed to produce a wide scatter to fill up a lot of space quickly. This, of course, can be toned down and tightened up in Photoshop's brush dynamics controls. They also include pressure-sensitive opacity controls, shifting hues and other dynamics.

Here's a look at some of the brushes in this week's collection (Nagel Series 18 Brushes), each represented with a single, quick swipe of the brush.
