UN imposes sanctions on 3 NKorean companies

UN imposes sanctions against 3 North Korean state-owned companies following rocket launch By The Associated Press

UNITED NATIONS (AP) ' The U.N. Security Council has imposed sanctions against three state-owned companies in North Korea.

U.S. Ambassador Susan Rice announced Wednesday that the council's committee monitoring sanctions against North Korea agreed to freeze the assets of the Green Pine Conglomerate and two other key companies to punish Pyongyang for last month's failed rocket launch.

The council gave the sanctions committee until Tuesday to make additions to the sanctions blacklist.

The European Union proposed about 40 additions and the U.S., Japan and South Korea also submitted lists, diplomats said, speaking anonymously because negotiations were closed. China, North Korea's closest ally, approved three companies Tuesday night and the committee agreed to the additions Wednesday.
