Weekly Download: Photoshop Brushes, Series 12 26 brushes for hair and fur effects By Dave Nagel For years the process of creating hair and fur in Adobe Photoshop has been a tremendous labor. But the advent of the Photoshop 7 Paint Engine has made this process almost simple. I recently wrote up an article covering techniques for creating hair and fur effects in Photoshop using Paint Engine dynamics, and interest was enormous, as was the volume of requests (and sometimes demands) for a set of preset brushes for accomplishing this technique. Hence this week's free download, featuring a range of brushes for generating hair and fur effects.

This week's collection includes 26 total brushes for achieving a wide variety of hair, fur or even foliage effects. I've included the brush used in my initial tutorial (NagelSeries12-02), as well as several other brushes for achieving, curly, bushy, furry and fluffy follicles. They use a range of Paint Engine dynamics to achieve their effects, which, of course, you can alter to suit your needs. And they range in size from a little eyelash brush up to gigantic, 400-pixel-long strands. Note that when you use these brushes, you can also adjust their size to work with the demands of your image. If you haven't already read my previous tutorial covering these topics, you can do so here. It will provide you with a decent explanation of how to get depth, color variation and highlights out of these presets.
