st3 and Path 1 to Provide Video-Over-IP Services Nationwide(October 15, 2001)
st3 provides end-to-end connectivity in 28 cities nationwide, a capability which makes it ideal for full end-to-end service control without the necessity for separate "local loops."
"This first commercial deployment of our video technologies, coupled with st3's combination of dedicated network and media resources, makes our partnership a way to meet the needs of broadcasters and film studios," said Frederick Cary, CEO of Path 1.
The Path 1 Cx1000 professional video gateway converts either compressed or uncompressed digital broadcast television pictures into IP packets and then reconverts the packets back to video without visible loss of quality or long delivery delays, allowing for live-interview exchanges and event transmission. In addition to encapsulation, the Path 1 gateway does pre and post conditioning of the MPEG stream to withstand the rigorous challenges of IP networks. The conditioning includes packet loss and out-of-order recovery schemes, timing recovery and QoS marking/shaping.
