nova media unveils UberMask, a utility to hide files and foldes on Mac OS XNew version 2.1 adds compatibility to OS X 10.7.2, custom passwords and more (October 12, 2011)
Berlin based nova media today unveiled UberMask for Mac OS X. UberMask will hide files and folders on OS X with a simple keystroke to prevent other users from stumbling across private data. Files and folders hidden by UberMask can also not be detected by Spotlight, the built in search engine of OS X.
"UberMask is not designed to encrypt files or turn a Mac into Fort Knox." states Jan Fuellemann, PR spokesperson at nova media. "Rather it will hide files and folders quick and easy without the need of entering commands in a terminal window or other hassles."
A special hotkey can be defined to hide all previously selected files and folders with one keystroke. Another hotkey can be used to hide or reveal single files and folders.
UberMask runs invisible in the background so that the launch of the app is not required to use the hotkeys. The app itself keeps track of all hidden files and is password protected to prevent unauthorised access to UberMask.
An additional option in the preferences allows to hide all previously selected files and folders at login in the case that another user is login into the user's account.
Pricing and Availability:
UberMask is availble online at nova media's website http://www.novamedia.de for 9.95 Euro (US-$ 9.95 for residents in the US and Canada). It requires an Intel Mac running OS X 10.6.x, 10.7.x. A 14 day trial version is available online.
Free press licenses are available on request.
