k.d. lang Tour Uses DPA Microphones IMK4061

Players of accompanying orchestra rely on the 4061 to mic instruments (November 29, 2004)

For this seasons tour, k.d lang and her various accompanying orchestras used DPA Microphones IMK4061 Instrument Miking Kits. Employing the IMK4061 proved to be a great choice, as the difficulties normally associated with miking a constantly changing cast of players from concert to concert were completely mitigated.

?Because we are either playing as a guest of an orchestra or hiring orchestras wherever we go, having to mic up a different set of instruments from place to place could have been a real logistical, time consuming problem, says Mac Johnson, an audio technician for k.d. lang. ?Fortunately, we found DPAs IMK4061 before we went on tour, because it has made our jobs a whole lot easier.

The IMK4061 is a versatile solution for close miking recording for studio use or amplification for live use with a wide variety of musical instruments. The kit includes a 4061 miniature microphone, an XLR adapter, and a selection of unique mounting accessories including holders for strings, surface mounts with double sided tape, a magnet holder and windscreens. The 4061 provides very clean, detailed and natural sound and can handle 144 dB SPL before clipping, allowing its use on snare drums, trumpets, guitar/bass speaker cabinets or other high level sound sources, as well as on all acoustic instruments.

?The DPA IMK4061 is just an overall great package that comes with a great sounding, extremely reliable microphone, continues Johnson. ?The cables are long enough to attach to the chairs instead of the music stands, and the way they are positioned on the instruments makes them almost invisible to the audience. Everyone I have met that has used these microphones says how much they love them. The package these mics come with makes attaching them simple, as they seem to fit so perfectly right on strings or any other instruments. I finally said goodbye to alligator clips, Velcro, rubber bands and a few other things Id rather not mention!

?We are extremely proud to have professional tours of k.d.s caliber use our IMK4061s, said Bruce Myers, president of DPA Microphones, Inc. ?These microphone kits were designed not only to sound great, but also to make the instrument miking process easier. We design all of our products with the user in mind, ensuring that their overall experience is what they have come to expect from a DPA microphone.
