iStreamPlanet and Limelight Deliver NAB Keynote Webcast(April 18, 2005)
Limelight Networks, a leading Internet content delivery network, and iStreamPlanet, a media digital rights management (DRM), webcasting and videoconferencing solutions provider, are teaming to webcast Mark Cuban's keynote address on the future of HDTV over the Internet, live from the National Association of Broadcasters (NAB) convention in Las Vegas on Wednesday, April 20. An HDTV industry luminary, Cuban is president of HDNet LLC, a leading provider of quality HDTV news, entertainment and sports programming.
The NAB keynote address marks an historical milestone as the first live public address to be streamed securely over the Internet using DRM technology. Specifically, iStreamPlanet is using Microsoft Corporation's latest Windows Media DRM 10 technology to protect the copyrighted event's content from unauthorized copying.
"As a result of our partnership with Limelight Networks, we can make Mark Cuban's much-anticipated insights available to the web audience without interruption, while ensuring that copyrights and content integrity will not be violated," said Alex Khaira, VP of Sales at iStreamPlanet. "We chose Limelight Networks as the content delivery network provider for this important event because we are expecting an exceptionally strong online turnout from the many stakeholders -- media professionals of every stripe, advertisers, and even consumers -- in the HDTV arena. Limelight has a proven track record in providing reliable and scalable delivery of video to large audiences, and for an event of this size that is absolutely critical."
"We look forward to teaming with iStreamPlanet to make the NAB keynote a vivid and memorable event for viewers on the web," said David Rice, vice president of sales for Limelight. "Our unique distributed delivery platform -- built for making online delivery of video to large audiences an affordable business option for content providers -- will enable iStreamPlanet to reliably provide the best possible online viewing experience for what may well prove to be an historical milestone in the HDTV industry."
The NAB keynote address will be accessible live on a pay-per-view basis for $2.95. Consumers will also be able to download the keynote for unlimited playback on PCs and portable devices. On-demand downloads will be available for 30 days following the event.
NAB keynote speaker Mark Cuban has been a leading media industry executive for the last decade. Prior to co-founding HDNet in 2001, he was co-founder of Broadcast.com in 1995, which was sold to Yahoo! for $5.7 billion in 1999. Cuban is also owner of the Dallas Mavericks NBA franchise.
