hsr/nys Steve Rosen Mixes Salmas Walk

Helps Pool create spots for AVON (August 27, 2004)

hsr/ny and Mixer Steve Rosen recently completed the audio mix for Salmas Walk, a :30 spot with :20 and :15 lifts, in both English and Spanish, for AVON. Developed through Pool, Inc. (New York, NY), the spot for AVONs new My Lip Miracle lipstick stars international superstar and Academy-Award-nominated actress Salma Hayek (Frieda) and will roll out nationally, and internationally, in late August.

The visuals are a stylized representation of the benefits of My Lip Miracle lipstick. Hayek emerges flower-like from the water, walks through a magical field of tulip blooms, dances in and out of a mirrored room, and reclines on a bed constructed on a floor of water with a wall of water flowing behind it all the while extolling the virtues of the long lasting lipstick that blossoms with color and shines with moisture and light.

First time commercial director Julie Taymor (who worked closely with the actress when she directed Hayek in Frieda), brought magic to the spot which is highly choreographed and visually quite different from other cosmetic spots. The copy points illustrate the benefits of the lipstick in the magical scenes through which Salma Hayek walks.

Hayek is a very strong, smart woman and so there is a nice parallel between her persona and the product. When she says ?lets talk (AVONs umbrella idea) about the power of having it all she is referring to the benefits of the new lip color as the product contains jojoba for moisture, silicone beads for gloss, and long-wearing pigments.

Of her experience working with hsrs Steve Rosen, Pool, Inc. President/Creative Director/Art Director Jayne Whitmer said, ?Steve was a delight to work with, a total pro. I trust him absolutely and respect his opinion as a mixer. We had many different versions, in English and Spanish, and he made the audio post a remarkably smooth process. In fact, my experience at hsr was terrific all around!

For hsr/ny Mixer Steve Rosen utilized a Soundtracs DPC-II digital console and Digidesign Pro Tools to mix the spot.

Representing Pool, Inc. (New York, NY) were President/Creative Director/Art Director Jayne Whitmer, Executive Producer Lora Nelson and Copywriter Dallas Itzen.

This is the first commercial shoot for First Look Artists (New York, NY) Director Julie Taymor who was supported by Executive Producer Doug Wedeck, DP Janusz Kaminski and Producer Kathleen Feeney.

The spot was shot on Hollywood Center Studios Stage 6 (Hollywood, CA) and on location at The Irons Residence (Malibu, CA) by
