hsr/ny creates sound design for South Park promo

For South Park, which remains one of the most indispensable animated shows in all of television due to the program's hilarious in-jokes and routine political satire, hsr/ny Mixer/Sound Designer Brian Tarner has completed the final audio mix for a large promotion package.  Phase one includes three :15  promos, called This is a Test,  which  began airing on Comedy Central September 21. Phase two includes three :30s, the first of which,  We Went There,  began airing September 30.  The 9th  season of South Park begins its run on Comedy Central on Oct. 19.

This is a Test, the graphics-based :15s, employ  color bars and clips from the shows to ?test the new season a la the emergency broadcast system tests with which we are all familiar. We Went There, a clips and graphics spot, demonstrates that South Park continues to shake up television. Punctuated by clips, we discover that ?This almost cost someone their job? This was totally not cool? And, this, well this was just wrong?but of course, we went there.

The promos required sound design and the manipulation of test pattern tones to find sounds that would sync up with what the on-air promotions department had created visually and also to match the elements that slam in at the end of each promo, explained Brian Tarner.

Comedy Central Producer Dexter Morris added, ?This was my first time at hsr/ny and collaborating with Brian Tarner was a real pleasure. He brought a lot to the table and threw out numerous ideas and options which enhanced our project tremendously. Together we customized audio tones that would be  unique to  the South Park characters and Brian  really did a great job with the sound design and the mix.

hsr/ny Mixer/Sound Designer  Brian Tarner  completed the audio assignment with a Fairlight Digital Audio editor and a  Soundtracs DPC-II console.

The Comedy Central  (New York, NY) production team included Director/Animator Jennifer Unger, Executive Producer Jeffrey Blackman, Producer Dexter Morris and Editor Jon Fireman.

Launched in 1997, South Park remains the highest-rated series on Comedy Central. Trey Parker and Matt Stone are co-creators and exec producers of the Emmy-nominated South Park, with Anne Garefino also serving as exec producer. This particular animated television series continues to go on strong, regardless of who the program lampoons, critiques, makes a parody of, or offends; because somewhere, there's someone laughing his or her butt off at the outstanding creativity of South Park.
