ePals(R) Announces Custom Content SolutionsePals' Custom Knowledge Libraries(TM) Help Students Achieve English/Language Arts Standards and Enable Publishers and Developers to Better Serve Primary and Secondary Schools (March 13, 2012)
WASHINGTON, DC -- (Marketwire) -- 03/13/12 -- ePals Corporation (TSX VENTURE: SLN), an education media company and leading safe social learning network, announced today the availability of their Custom Knowledge Libraries for use by schools, publishers and application developers in the creation of innovative curriculum and other instructional products. The content libraries -- available in print and digital form -- provide the "range, quality and complexity" needed to meet the Common Core Standards' English/Language Arts and Literacy 10 requirements.
Initial Content Knowledge Library licenses have been sold to the New York City Department of Education, the country's largest public school system, and K-12, Inc. (NYSE: LRN), which provides online curriculum and support to more than 2,000 school districts in all 50 US States and was named the leading provider of online curriculum to school districts across the US in January of 2012.(1.)
ePals' Custom Knowledge Libraries are designed and packaged by ePals' Children's Publishing Division based on the needs of individual customers, on either subscription or single-use basis, from a master library of hundreds of thousands of high- quality articles reflecting a range of levels of complexity and a wide variety of fiction and non-fiction subjects. This unique database was created through almost forty years of continuous publication by Carus Publishing (recently acquired by ePals), whose award winning youth-oriented magazines for school and home include such well known brands as Cricket®, Ladybug®, Appleseed® and Cobblestone®. Publishing fourteen magazines targeted to children of different ages allows ePals to refresh and expand the scope of its Knowledge Library to meet new and ongoing curricular demands. Last week, Appleseed was the subject of a compelling story on NBC's Today Show (http://video.today.msnbc.msn.com/today/46681191#46681191) and earlier this month, 11 Carus titles won Parent Choice awards (http://corp.epals.com/news/press/press_mar5_12.php).
"Our Custom Knowledge Libraries solution brings together high-quality, high-interest content to support increased student engagement and motivation throughout K-12 and across all subject areas," says Miles Gilburne, ePals Chairman and CEO. "New York City and K-12, Inc. are in the vanguard of schools and publishers recognizing the need for new types of learning materials to meet the demands of 21st century classrooms and ensure their alignment with English/Language Arts Common Core State Standards. We anticipate rapid growth in licensing of our unique content as we approach the effective date of these standards in 2015."
