dots Cockpit JTX Enterprise Shows Two FacesDifferent user interfaces show users only see what they need to see (August 06, 2004)
The challenge of print networks is to combine user friendliness for print novices with the professional standards of print professionals. The dots Cockpit JTX Enterprise digital print network solves this problem with different user interfaces: Users only see what they need to see.
This user friendliness has made dots Enterprise the leading print network on the German market. It is particularly popular with universities and government agencies. At the heart of this software solution is the Job&Order ticket that goes far beyond conventional job tickets. The Job&Order ticket is a sophisticated communications tool. It accompanies the print job starting with the creation of the document in the office through to print processing in the print room all the way to delivery to the post office and invoicing in accounting.
Along the way, it shows the different users a user interface specifically tailored to their individual needs. Office staff only fill out information such as the desired product, number of copies, due date and cost center. The people working in the print room, on the other hand, are supplied with a document where most of the work has already been done. Whether brochures, newspapers, annual reports or dissertations: the pages have already been arranged by the time the document reaches the print room. It can then be further processed with the integrated output software that has received much praise from print professionals.
For Clemens Grossmann, CEO of dots Software, user friendliness also means that the print network functions independently of the applications in use: "There is not a company or a government agency out there who can afford to completely replace its software when they buy a new copy system. Thanks to our DPML technology, we can transmit documents true to form regardless of which application was used to create them. This is why dots Enterprise works just as well as a print network in a clothing store or an electronics manufacturer, a university or a church parish."
dots Enterprise connects any number of client PCs to printers and copy machines in the Central Reproduction department. The dots open client also makes it possible to integrate non-Windows platforms into the print network (e.g. Mac, Unix, LINUX). The software, regardless of manufacturer, manages printing for each PostScript printer, Image Setter or CTP system. The scripting function is used to automate workflow, making it streamlined and flexible. The Twain interface also integrates paper templates into the workflow.
"The way that dots Enterprise can be customized is unique for print network software," says John Stewart, head of technical support for dots Inc. "It is our job to make sure that American companies and organizations can take advantage of what it has to offer. With its user friendliness, its print quality and its compatibility with all of the common manufacturers, the software is truly a new alternative for everyone who needs to print in a networked environment."
