dbx Purple 162SLs Tours With Rod StewartFOH mixer Lars Brogaard chooses new stereo compressor/limiter (October 01, 2004)

Two dbx Purple Compressors will be available via inserts on vocals for Rod Stewart and his backup vocalists. "I've always loved the way the classic dbx 160 handled vocals," Brogaard notes. "It's a very sensitive unit, and helps you shape the dynamics of live vocal performances in a way no other compressor can. Moving to the 162SL allows me to continue to associate myself with what I consider to be the very best equipment available."
Brogaard is also fond of his vintage dbx RTA1 analyzer, which he has used on virtually every gig he's mixed for well over a decade. "I swear by that system," he affirms. "I have all the new analyzers, and they have their points. But there is nothing that compares to the RTA1, even today. I use it to EQ the entire PA system. The dbx equipment has been part of my professional life for many years, and with systems like the 162SL, they'll be part of it for years to come, as well," Brogaard concludes.
