Zaxwerks makes 3D easy

Simple tools make 3D quick and intuitive By Ko Maruyama
At NAB there are always new solutions for your production pipeline.  Sometimes you'll see things that have been out for a while, but are completely new to you.  This happened to me - I took another look at some software that has been around for a couple years, but I never really saw it before.  It's easy.  It's 3D.  And it's from Zax.

I've been using 3D applications for years.  From Amapi to Form?Z, I've tried just about all of them, and used several, including Maya and CINEMA4D in production - but all 3D applications are complex and deep.  But what happens when you need clean, dynamically animated 3D (perhaps something simple like text), and you don't know the intricacies of traditional 3D applications?

Zaxwerks ProAnimator is both a standalone software option and plugin for After Effects and Motion 2.   It's not only a fast way to produce some amazing 3D animations, but because it's behaviorally based software, rather than keyframe-based, ProAnimator is relatively easy to understand as well.  Shift a couple of sliders around and the animation just about makes itself.  There is a button called "TRY" which allows you to introduce and audition different 3D animations.

It's really a perfect fit for someone who wants some flying 3D titles or logos, but doesn't have time to learn all of the intricacies of a traditional 3D package.  John Dickinson walked me through the software package at NAB, showing me some of the application's highlights.  However, if you don't have the time to travel to a tradeshow to get the walkthrough, all you have to do is check out the movies that John made, demonstrating just how easy this software is to use.

At NAB 2007, Zax and John showed off two new plugins as well.  3D Warps and Layer Tools.  Both work in Adobe's After Effects.
