Zaxcom Deva V Wins CAS Technical Achievement AwardThe Zaxcom Deva V is a portable 10-channel field mixer (February 27, 2006)
The Zaxcom Deva V hard-disk recorder won the 2006 Technical Achievement Award from the Cinema Audio Society. The award was presented Feb. 25 in Los Angeles and recognizes Zaxcoms achievement in contributing to the art, science, appreciation, and advancement of sound in film production.
?This award is the result of years of listening to sound-mixing professionals concerns about what they need in a field recorder, said Sanders. ?We developed the Deva V in response to the real-world conditions these professionals face. We greatly appreciate this recognition of our dedication to providing superior-quality recording with full backup, all at a cost-effective price point.
The Zaxcom Deva V is a portable 10-channel field mixer that offers users 24-bit multidisk, multiformat location recording with backup to DVD. Audio from the hard disk can now be mirrored throughout the day to either an internal or external DVD-Ram drive, allowing the sound mixer to end his or her day when everyone else does. Production staffers can immediately reference previous recordings on set, reducing potential disputes with post and providing extra copies of recorded audio in the case of lost, damaged, or stolen material. The Deva V also features a sunlight-readable, full-color touch screen, 16 channels of audio mixing, and a 15-second record buffer, as well as FireWireŽ disk recording.
Zaxcom also manufactures the Deva IV, which features eight channels of recording. Users can also take advantage of the Deva Mix-12, a control surface for both the Deva IV and V. Featuring 16 inputs and 18 outputs, the Mix-12 is paired with the Deva to perform all location mix and record functions, eliminating the need for expensive external mixing consoles.
Glenn Sanders and Howard Stark of Zaxcom won the Scientific and Technical Achievement Award from the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences for the Deva in 2003.
