Zaxcom Deva Behind Several CAS Award Nominees

Outstanding Achievement in Sound Mixing (February 15, 2006)

Zaxcom's Deva was the hard-disk recorder of choice for a significant portion of nominees being considered by the Cinema Audio Society (CAS) for awards in outstanding achievement in sound mixing in 2005. The production mixers for the films "Crash," "Memoirs of a Geisha," "Walk the Line," and "War of Worlds" and episodes of the television series "CSI: Crime Scene Investigation," "Deadwood," and "24" -- all recorded on the Deva -- are under consideration for the awards.

"The fact that some of the world's most talented production mixers, working on projects that demand the highest in digital audio quality, chose the Deva is truly an honor for us," said Glenn Sanders, president of Zaxcom. "It visibly demonstrates the quality and efficiency of the system in high-end feature film and television environments. We extend our congratulations to all of the nominees for this prestigious award."

The Zaxcom Deva, available as the eight-track Deva IV and 10-track Deva V, offers users 24-bit multidisk, multiformat location recording with backup to DVD. The ability to background-record multiple disks throughout the day saves precious time in feature film and episodic television production by allowing users to record all disk copies required by post at the same time as the original recordings. Production staffers can immediately reference previous recordings on set, reducing potential disputes with postproduction facilities and providing extra copies of recorded audio in the case of lost, damaged, or stolen material. Both the Deva IV and V feature 16 channels of audio mixing and a 10-second record buffer, as well as FireWireŽ disk recording.

Zaxcom also manufacturers the Deva Mix-12, a control surface for the Deva IV and V. The Mix-12 features 16 inputs and 18 outputs, and when paired with the Deva, it performs all location mix and record functions, eliminating the need for expensive external mixing consoles.

Winners of the 2005 CAS awards will be announced Feb. 25 at the Millennium-Biltmore Hotel in Los Angeles.
