ZDF Picks Quartz Routers For Special Events

New equipment for EURO2004 Soccer & Olympics (July 28, 2004)

ZDF recently completed coverage of the Euro2004 soccer championships in Portugal using a new Quartz Q256 routing system. The Quartz equipment was supplied to the special events department of ZDF as part of a portable system traveling worldwide in custom-built cases and used for coverage of major events. Following EURO2004 the system will be used in Athens for the Olympics.

Key factors in ZDFs choice of Quartz were flexibility to handle a wide variety of events and robust construction to survive frequent shipping around the world. A particularly important issue was the ability to work with existing systems from other manufacturers. Mr. Bender, Department Leader of the special events groups at ZDF commented, ?The Quartz system gives us the confidence to easily be able to connect to other controllers. The large number of protocols supported by Quartz is impressive; all the major protocols are built-in.

Configured as 256x256 for ZDF, the system includes Quartz CP-1000 intelligent control panels. These are based on LCD button technology, pioneered by Quartz for router systems, and providing intelligent menus and automatic re-legending of buttons.

ZDF is a German public network channel broadcasting nationwide programs focusing on information and culture.

About Quartz Worldwide:
Quartz is based in Reading, a traditional location for UK companies in the video and broadcast field, and employs about 40 people. Growing from initial sales in the UK, products are now shipped worldwide and large numbers of systems are in use throughout Europe, Africa, Middle East, Pacific Rim, and in North America (including many sold on an OEM basis by GVG as the SMS6000). The product range has also grown dramatically and Quartz routers now span from 8X1 up to 1,024 X 1,024, with a wide range of frames, panels and signal formats, including HDTV.

Quartz entered the Master Control switcher market in 2001 and has rapidly become an important player in this market segment. The QMC range is one of the most flexible and cost effective available, and has proven itself in multi-channel systems around the world.

Quartz has continued to grow, despite an industry slowdown that has affected many router companies. Ongoing development of advanced router control systems, new routers, expansion of the master control range, and excellence in customer support all combine to give Quartz a competitive edge.

About Quartz in North America:
Quartz Electronics, Inc. (QEI) handles all sales and support for North America. The QEI Sales and marketing team all have extensive experience and detailed product knowledge gained from many years in the industry. The entire team shares the highest level of commitment to excellence in looking after our customers.
