Yelp in Poland is Good for Small Businesses
(October 07, 2012)(PRWEB) October 07, 2012
5StarControl has issued an announcement about Yelp launching its online review service in Poland.
Local Business Review Site 5StarControl wrote that consumers are going to be entranced by Yelp launching its new Polish website, which currently focuses on the major cities of Krakow and Warsaw. This expansion into other countries allows small businesses worldwide to increase their presence online. 5StarControl feels this is beneficial to their business as reputation management and marketing specialists due to increased demand for marketing help online once social media company tools become available to businesses in each city around the world.
Yelp is one of the largest local online review sites on the internet. Began in San Francisco in 2004, Yelp now claims more than 78 million users a month in the 19 countries that it currently serves. Yelp users can rate and write reviews of local businesses, which are then aggregated into a rating between one and five stars. Users can also search for local businesses based on their location, as well as their rating. Yelp.pl is the new website for Poland, with iPhone and Android apps also being released there, as well as Yelp for Business Owners, which is a platform in which business owners can use Yelp as a form of small business marketing online.
A country of about 38.5 million people in central Europe, Poland is the sixth largest country in the European Union, as well as the sixth largest economy. Devastated by World War II and then a communist country for more than forty years, in 1989 Poland held free elections and threw off the reins of communism to become a free market economy. Since then, Poland has seen rapid economic growth and large rise the middle class.
The economic and political capital of Poland is Warsaw. With a metropolitan area of more than 2.5 million people, it is the ninth largest city by population in the entire European Union. Warsaw faced massive destruction during World War II, in which more than 90% of the city was destroyed. The city was carefully rebuilt since then, and not only houses the government of Poland, but is also the economic center of the country.
The cultural center of Poland is the southern city of Krakow. One of the oldest cities in Poland, and second only in size to Warsaw, the old city of Krakow largely survived the Second World War intact. Named the European Capital for Culture by the EU in 2000, Krakow is the home to many theaters, concert halls, and museums. It also has the dubious distinction of being the city closest to the infamous Nazi death camp, Auschwitz.
The expansion of Yelp into Poland is another example of the global reach of consumer review sites. According to Yelp spokesperson Miriam Warren, "Opening up Poland to the Yelp community not only gets us excited about discovering the latest and greatest from the local residents, but it also opens up the platform for the estimated 20 million Poles that live outside the country." Now more than ever is it important for businesses to maintain and monitor their online reputation, no matter where they are located.
