Yamaha Intros 20x CD RecordersModels available with FireWire or USB 2.0 interfaces
The FireWire model (the poetically christened CRW2200FXZ) sells for $329.99, while the USB model (CRW2200UXZ) sells for $299.99. The USB 2.0 model is also backward-compatible with USB 1.1 interfaces, although recording through a USB 1.1 connection does limit the speed to 4x, as with all USB 1.1 recorders. With a USB 2.0 connection, throughput is 480 Mbps, while the current generation of FireWire offers 400 Mbps.
The new models feature Partial Constant Angular Velocity (P-CAV) technology. This combination of CAV and standard Constant Linear Velocity (CLV) technologies keeps disc rotation speed constant, according to Yamaha, while adjusting the data transfer rate depending upon which portion of the disc is being recorded. In addition to using conventional CLV recording at 2X, 4X, 8X, and 10X in rewriting mode, both the CRW2200FXZ and CRW2200UXZ also support the 4X-10X CAV mode.
The new models also features the Yamaha SafeBurn System, which provides buffer underrun control, an 8 MB buffer and Yamaha's Optimum Write SpeedControl.
For the Macintosh, the units also include Nero Max, Neato MediaFace II and Adobe Photoshop LE 5.0. For more information, visit http://www.yamaha.com.
