XChange International Releases TypeFitter 1.0New typography spacing plug-in for InDesign CS and CS2 (June 21, 2005)
XChange International, the source for extended technology worldwide, are pleased to announce the release of TypeFitter 1.0 for Adobe InDesign CS and CS2. TypeFitter is a plug-in that allows users to ?nudge an entire group of settings that affect typographic spacing with a single click. As type is tightened or loosened with TypeFitter, adjustments are made to the way that InDesign spaces text characters. With this tool, creating text that fits in a required space while maintaining smooth, professional spacing is easier and more effective than using tracking or scaling alone.
TypeFitter lets users define type-fit styles to dictate how much to ?nudge each setting when tightening or loosening type and also allows them to save and share those styles with other users. Additionally, TypeFitter offers two useful features for avoiding common production errors. The overset finder automatically finds any frame or table cell that contains overset text. The widow finder automatically finds and highlights any paragraph that ends with a very short line. Users can define how many words they consider to be a widow in the TypeFitter settings.
When a user ?nudges their text tighter or looser, TypeFitter makes adjustments to a paragraphs justification settings. These settings can affect both justified and non-justified text, and InDesign uses these settings to decide the best spacing for that paragraph. With TypeFitter, users will notice that the way type is affected by these adjustments is far more subtle and refined than if they simply highlighted the whole paragraph and increased the tracking overall.
There are times when users might want to ?nudge the tracking in addition to the justification settings. TypeFitter lets them do this as well. All of these settings are controlled in the type-fit style. When editing a style, users can control the degree that each of the tighten and loosen settings will nudge their settings. Users can also create different type-fit styles for different fonts, knowing that some fonts will withstand more manipulation or tightening than others.
Utilising InDesigns sophisticated justification algorithms, TypeFitter offers a streamlined approach to producing great looking typography. Using a simple palette, text can be effortlessly tightened, loosened and restored, creating smooth, even text.
