XChange International Announces FontLab 4.6 for Mac and PC(July 11, 2005)

FontLab 4.6 is a professional font editor that is a comprehensive solution for font foundries, professional type designers, typographers and graphic design studios. The application allows users to design type, and create and modify fonts, and supports all major outline font formats, including Type 1, TrueType, Multiple Master and OpenType. Import formats include: PC/Mac Type 1, PC/Mac TrueType, EPS (Only the Mac version can import and export Mac format fonts), and OpenType (both types) up to 64000 characters.
Export Formats include: PC/Mac Type 1, PC/Mac TrueType, EPS (Only the Mac version can import and export Mac format fonts), and OpenType (both types) up to 6400 characters.
FontLab includes tools that give users the power to Draw, Erase, VectorPaint, Mirror, Composite, Set Startpoint, Interpolate, Envelope, Remove Overlap, Merge Contours, Subtract Contours, Snap to Guides, Check Connections, Nodes at Extremes, Meter, TrueType and Type 1 manual hinting. Additionally, the product features multi-Undo (100+ levels), Sketch, Knife, Magic Wand, Rotate, Skew, Scale, and Intersect Contours.
FontLab ships with filters such as Bold, Outline, Sidebearings Control, Scale, Slant, Rotate, Autohint, and many more ? all customisable and applicable font wide. Users can program sequences of filters and apply them to any range of characters, including a whole font or set of fonts. Macro-based filters include Digital, Shadow, Bevel, Drops, Slices, and Mosaic.
Preference panels included are Glyph, Font chart, Preview/Kerning/Metrics, Preview, OpenType, Classes, Map, Macro Editor, OpenType Sample, and Anchors. Encoding options are available for Unicode, Custom, ANSI, ASCII, and virtually all known codepages and encodings including Chinese, Japanese and Korean double-byte formats.
