Wounded vets regain bit of camaraderie in kitchen

Wounded vets regain a bit of military camaraderie learning to cook at culinary institute By The Associated Press

HYDE PARK, N.Y. (AP) ' A new program hosted by the Culinary Institute of America is teaching wounded veterans who served during the Iraq and Afghanistan wars to cook healthy meals.

Sixteen veterans took part in the healthy cooking "boot camp" sponsored by the advocacy group Wounded Warrior Project last week. Former service members once consumed with patrols and sentry posts learned how to poach and saute at the renowned cooking school on the Hudson River.

The veterans learned some kitchen tips, but seemed to enjoy even more the chance to spend four intense days with people who have faced similar hurdles.

Wounded Warrior and the culinary institute will run two more "boot camps" at Hyde Park in March and there are hopes to expand the program.
