Worley Releases LightWave Plugin Updates

Sasquatch, Polk, Taft get makeovers By Dave Nagel
Worley Labs has released an update to one of its plugins and two of its plugin collections for NewTek's LightWave, including Sasquatch, Polk and Taft. The updated versions are available now for Mac OS X and Windows.

Worley's Sasquatch is a plugin for creating hair and fur on 3D objects. The new 1.6 version eliminates a large number of bugs found in previous releases, according to the company, including problems with a one-pixel render error and and X-ray effect that occurred sometimes with sparse hair. It also adds interface and performance enhancements.

The William Howard Taft Collection ("Taft") is a set of tools and functional enhancements for LightWave. It includes six individual tools for LightWave, including Camera Match, which is designed to match photographs with LightWave's camera view; Sticky Front Projection, which allows for image-based rendering for moving around photographic scenes in LightWave; Whirley Points, which offers real-time soft dynamics; Tracer, a tool for launching projectiles; HeatWave, which generates hot water vapor distortion effects; and Hoser, which is designed for adding flexibility to hoses, ropes and the like without the use of bones or IK.

The James K. Polk Collection ("Polk") offers 23 individual plugins for LightWave. These include Acid, a shader that allows for changing the surface texture and bump map based on effectors; Poke, a displacement plugin; Blink, for motion effects; Lens, for correcting or adding lens distortions; Wheelie, for rotating wheels automatically; Dangle, which automatically animates dangling chains and ropes; and several others. (A complete list with descriptions can be found on Worley's Web site.)

Both the Polk and Taft updates fix minor bugs (including a Screamernet bug) and also offer improved interfaces (particularly in the Mac versions).

All of the updates are available now for Mac OS X and Windows. (Earlier versions are also available for Mac OS 9.) For more information, visit
