Woman unidentified for years laid to rest in Wis.Wis. deputies, medical examiner become family of sorts for slain woman unidentified for years
WAUPUN, Wis. (AP) ' Sheriff's deputies and medical examiner's staff have become the family of sorts for a still-unidentified girl whose dead body was found three years ago partially submerged in a frozen Wisconsin lake.
Unable to track down her real family, the public officials joined some two-dozen residents of the small community of Waupun Wednesday as their town's "Jane Doe" was finally laid to rest. Authorities said they'd done all the research they could to determine who she was and who killed her.
Only the basics are known about the girl found by hunters on Nov. 23, 2008. She's around 15 to 21 years old, about 5-foot-1 and estimated to weigh between 110 and 135 pounds.
Residents attending the 10-minute service say they wanted to be there to stand in for her family.
