Company Cites IE8's Lack of Support for Its Premier HTML5 Product (May 08, 2012)

NEW YORK, NY -- (Marketwire) -- 05/08/12 --, the leading do-it-yourself HTML5 web publishing platform, today announced the company will no longer support Internet Explorer 8. Though Internet Explorer commands roughly a 20% share of the global browser market according to March 2012 StatCounter statistics; Wix analyzed its 20 million users and discovered that only 12% are using IE8; a number that's dropping each month as internet users worldwide shift to more advanced browser alternatives. As the company expedites the development of its HTML5 website builder with additional advanced web design capabilities and features, this transition will take place immediately.

Wix, which enables users to create beautiful websites without the need to code, decided to focus on modern browsers like Firefox, Chrome and advanced IE versions that fully support HTML5 and encourage its further development. Furthermore, a poll of Wix' users showed an overwhelming 89% support the addition of advanced HTML5 features to the website builder over the continued support for IE8.

IE8's inability to enable the rich and interactive HTML5 elements is the foremost reason for the company's recent decision. Dropping IE8 support will enable Wix users to benefit from greater design flexibility, wider choice and the full power of the advanced HTML5 technology. As the first publishing platform to drop support of the IE8 browser, Wix sees this measure as a means to long-term customer satisfaction by providing the most advanced solution for its rapidly growing HTML5 user base.

"By freeing the Wix platform from the constraints IE8 places on its users, Wix will continue to lead the advancement of HTML5 web design features that aren't supported by outdated browsers today," said Avishai Abrahami, Wix' CEO and Co-founder. "The Wix user demands more variety and a consistent stream of new features which will benefit their website in the long run. Advanced HTML5 web design and IE8 support cannot co-exist."

Since the launch of Wix' HTML5 website builder in April 2012, more than 400,000 HTML5 websites have been created with the platform, highlighting the expanding demand users have for the internet's most advanced language. Wix' HTML5 product lets anyone who wants to easily create and deploy a professional online presence do so. Like their Flash version, the HTML5 website builder maintains the same easy-to-use, high quality and visually stunning results people have grown accustomed to with
