Witness payment an issue in NY husband killingDefense says payment to witness raises integrity issue in NY case of husband's killing
WHITE PLAINS, N.Y. (AP) ' The defense is questioning the integrity of the case against a Florida woman accused of arranging the killings of her millionaire husband and mother-in-law.
The prosecution disclosed last week that an investigator gave $5,000 to a key witness in the upcoming trial of Narcy Novack of Fort Lauderdale.
The witness, Novack's daughter May Abad, is expected to testify against her mother.
The prosecution said Abad feared for her safety and a detective used her own money to help Abad relocate.
The defense says the payment raises issues of integrity. It's expected to be discussed at a pretrial conference Friday.
Novack's husband, Ben Novack Jr., was the son of the builder of the Fontainebleau hotel in Miami Beach. He and his mother were beaten to death three months apart in 2009.
