Winners of 17th Annual TEC Awards Announced

For Outstanding Technical and Creative Achievement By DMN Staff Writer
The winners of the 17th annual TEC Awards were announced during AES 2001 at the Marriott Marquis in New York. Awards were given in two categories: Outstanding Creative Achievement and Outstanding Technical Achievement.

The awards are sponsored by Mix Magazine's Foundation for Excellence in Audio, with proceeds donated to hearing conservation programs of the House Ear Institute and H.E.A.R., as well as to scholarship programs in the audio arts and sciences.
Comedian Father Guido Sarducci hosted the event, joined on stage by engineer/producer Phil Ramone for the induction of the engineer Roy Halee into the TEC Hall of Fame; and guitar virtuosos Les Paul and Larry Carlton, co-presenters of the Les Paul Award to Steely Dan (Walter Becker and Donald Fagen.)

Presenting TEC Awards in 23 categories of Technical and Creative Achievement were engineer/producers Frank Filipetti, George Massenburg and Elliot Scheiner; producers Tony Maserati and Nile Rodgers; sound designer/engineers Abe Jacob and John Kilgore; studio executives Simon Andrews, John Frye and Zoe Thrall; guitarist Carlos Alomar and audio manufacturer Eveanna Manley.
