Winner Take All Contest Winner Announced
Gregory Mooney, a graphic designer from Morrow, Ohio was announced the winner of Digital Media Net's Winner Take All contest. Mooney, a retired industrial designer is a regular DMN Forum user who has been participating in the various forums on DMNForums.com for the past four years, and was completely blown away when DMN CEO Lou Wallace made the call. "This really is quite amazing," Mooney said. "One never knows what or who is behind the publishing of these forums so it's good to hear from you." Mooney won Pinnacle Liquid Edition, the Adobe Video Collection, Maxon Cinema4D, NewTek's VT and LightWave 3D, Sony Sound Forge and Vegas+DVD Production Suite, Ulead Cool3D Production Studio and DVD Workshop 2, Serious Magic Ultra and DV Rack, a Bella EZKeyboard, and a pro level workstation from Digital Media Net to run all the applications.
Mooney, who retired eight years ago, is currently focused on two things that he currently deems important, and that is to "chase the dimpled white spheroid over hill and dale," and "Do everything I can to make this country more attractive and smarter through better design (mine). Presently, I do a fair amount of graphic design, recently completed a TV spot, and am working on a training and orientation video."
Mooney is an avid user of the Video Editing forums and enjoys the fact that the most respected creative experts on the Web are all gathered in one place, ready to help out on virtually any topic. "Beyond the well organized graphic layout of the DMN forums, the most enjoyable aspect of the forums is having access to the variety of expert talents, especially the cross platform references on integrating related programs, i.e., sound." I find myself checking the forums several times each day. . . from the first trip into the studio in the morning to a last check at night."
More information on Mooney is below. Again, congratulations to Gregory Mooney of Morrow Ohio.
On which forum is Mooney's current favorite:
Of the several forums I watch, my favorite is Sony Vegas. I recently moved from one NLE program to this one and find the people most helpful, knowledgeable and interested in providing useful information. Vegas is more complex to me than my old program, so the questions from others are most helpful.
His take on what makes a forum tick:
I believe the quality of the forum content has much to do with the quality of the subject product. A troublesome product, with patches, installation problems and user snags, produces recurring threads which are annoying and difficult to follow. Such poor conditions also seem to stimulate contention.
And plans for his DMN Studio:
Plans for the future with this new DMN studio is to pursue a late-age ego stretch. Many Industrial Designers (those who designed your car and video equip., for example) like to think we can design anything. Now, with all this new software, I KNOW I can.
The more serious side of this will allow me to pursue more and better video and graphic communication activities. A nice thing about retirement, especially when one has my compulsion to design, is that one has the time to learn new techniques and the independence to refuse all but the most suitable projects; not going too hungry in the process. Thank you once again for the fine forums and the great new studio. I look forward to hearing from you... and greeting the UPS guy.
