Wink Service Reaches More Than One Million U.S. Cable Households

Wink Remains the Most Widely Deployed iTV Service Provider in North America (July 23, 2001)
Wink Communications today announced that the company's Enhanced Broadcasting services now reach more than one million cable homes -- an increase of 5X from a year ago. North American cable subscribers in 44 cable systems are now enjoying the benefits of the Company's enhanced broadcasting services -- up from 17 systems the same time last year.

Wink is currently deployed in cable systems with Adelphia, AT&T Broadband, Charter, Comcast, and Time Warner Cable. The Wink service is included as a standard feature for all Charter, Adelphia and Comcast digital cable customers.

There are currently thirty-two networks partnered with Wink that are adding simple interactivity to their programming and advertisements. In total there are more than two thousand hours of programming each week are being enhanced with Wink's technology. Wink's free service has also been widely adopted by cable subscribers nationwide. More than six out of ten homes that have Wink are using it regularly and with great frequency.

"A significant factor in our cable deployment success is the fact that Wink gives cable operators the ability to immediately offer a free service which is convenient to use, adds value for viewers and builds customer loyalty," added Wilderotter. "Since Wink is deployable on the millions of 'thin-client' set-tops that are already deployed en-masse in the customer's homes, cable operators are able to give their customers more from the service that they already have."

"While we find today's milestone cause for celebration, our work is far from finished. We will be deploying our services on the Motorola DCT 2000 platform during the second half of the year -- a development that will add distribution into millions of additional cable homes. We also anticipate ongoing growth with all of our distribution partners and Wink will continue to forge the partnerships necessary to maintain an aggressive deployment schedule," concluded Wilderotter.
