Wildform Wild FX Pro 3

Automated title effects tool for Flash and QuickTime By Dave Nagel
You're probably familiar with Wildform from the company's Flash tools, including Flix Pro, which was the first standalone utility for vectorizing video and converting QuickTime movies to the .swf format. Now they've released Wild FX Pro, a titling animation suite that moves beyond Flash and into broadcast video, bringing with it the ease of use and variety I've come to expect from Wildform--and at an affordable price to boot.

Wild FX Pro 3 is the evolution of two previous software lines from Wildform: SWfx and Wild FX. But Wild FX Pro builds on these these with the addition of video output options that include QuickTime, AVI, DV and MPEG-4 for integration into video editing pipelines. It also still includes all of the functionality of Wild FX, including the ability to output .swf files supporting Flash 3 and up. (Note that if you do not need the video output options available in Wild FX Pro, you can purchase the Wild FX standard edition for just $39.)

So what does it do?

Wild FX Pro is a simple application that generates more than 400 effects for text for use in video or Web presentations. It can export video and Flash files, as well as HTML, and includes a number of customizable options for output, which I'll get into below. This software is so easy to use that, assuming you're smart enough to click a button, you'll be an expert at it in no time.

The effects
The centerpiece of Wild FX Pro is its vast library of preset effects. In its current incarnation, Wild FX Pro includes 419 title effects, including 47 customizable presets, a couple hundred dynamic effects and the rest "standard" effects (which can be manipulated further in Macromedia Flash, if desired). Wildform also offers one additional set of effects (for $25), which includes more than 200 additional presets.

The included effects are organized into three categories: Custom, Dynamic and Standard. Beyond this, they're not organized into any categories, so you'll have to hunt and peck for the specific effects you're looking for. They range from very simple type-on effects, scrolls, fades and wipes to complex--sometimes stunning--physical simulations and particle effects. Here are some samples, shown here in the Flash format to keep the size down.

Asterisk 1 (click to watch)

Vortex Journey (click to watch)

Rotisserie V4 (click to watch)

I Can Fly! (click to watch)

Cross (click to watch)

Be1 (click to watch)

This is a very small sampling of the effects possible, but you begin to get the idea. (And, yes, although I didn't show it, Wild FX Pro does include the Matrix effect--several variations, in fact.)
