WiebeTech Ships Super DesktopGB

Desktop drives use FireWire bus power By Dave Nagel
WiebeTech has released a new line or desktop FireWire-based hard drive. The new line, called Super DesktopGB, offers capacities up to 120 GB and uses the FireWire port for power. It also includes a USB 2.0 connection.

Super DesktopGB comes in a 3.5-inch FireWire and USB 2.0 enclosure and receives its power through the FireWire bus, though an AC adapter is also included. According to WiebeTech, the drives are compatible with Macintosh and Windows and require no drivers in Mac OS X, Mac OS 9 and certain versions of Windows. The drives can also be used as boot volumes under Mac OS 9 and Mac OS X. The USB 2.0 capabilities of the drives are also backward-compatible with USB 1.1.

Individual models in the lineup include:

  • 40 GB at 5,400 RPM for $219.95
  • 80 GB at 7,200 RPM for $249.95
  • 120 GB at 7,200 RPM for $319.95

All of the drives are available now and include a vertical stand and cables, as well as the AC adapter. For more information, visit http://www.wiebetech.com.
