WiebeTech Rolls Out RaidTech

FireWire 800 RAID offers automatic drive rebuilding in mirror mode By Dave Nagel
WiebeTech has started shipping RaidTech, a new FireWire 800-based RAID system. It's available now in capacities up to 500 GB.

RaidTech is a two-bay hardware RAID system, offering hot-swappable operation and support for a variety of operating systems, including Mac OS 9, Mac OS X, Windows and Linux systems. The unit can be daisychained and includes two FireWire 800 ports and one USB 2.0 port. It can also be set for either mirroring (RAID 1) or striping (RAID 0). When in mirror mode, individual drives can be replaced and automatically rebuilt.

The new RaidTech comes in four configurations. The base model with no drives sells for $599.95. Other configurations include:

  • Dual 120 GB drives for $839.95
  • Dual 180 GB drives for $999.95
  • Dual 250 GB drives for $1,279.95
