WiebeTech Launches FireWire 800 Expansion Card

Fire800 Host offers three 1394b ports By Dave Nagel
WiebeTech today announced a new model in its line of expansion cards. The Fire800 Host is a PCI-based expansion board, the company's first to offer FireWire 800 connectivity. It's available now for Mac OS X.

The Fire800 card supports any PCI-based Macintosh running Mac OS X without additional drivers. The card includes three FireWire 800 ports and can run in a 33 MHz 64-bit PCI slot for data rates up to 800 megabits per second. (In 32-bit, 33 MHz slots the speed drops to 400 megabits per second.) It's also backward-compatible with FireWire 400, according to WiebeTech.

The Fire800 Host card will be available this week for $79.95 or $49.95 when purchased in conjunction with a qualifying WiebeTech enclosure, including the Fire800 enclosure. For more information, visit
