WiebeTech Intros Storage SystemsG5Jam offers expanded internal storage for G5 systems
The new ComboDock allows users to dock an IDE drive to at FireWire 800 and USB 2.0 bridge. The dock uses the Oxford922 bridge and offers dual daisychainable FireWire 800 ports, a USB port, a self-aligning connector and an AC adapter. It will be available Jan. 14 for Mac OS X, Windows and Linux for $169.95 with AC adapter and FireWire cable.
The new G5Jam is an internal G5 storage expansion system. It provides the ability to increase the internal storage of a G5 to four drives (for up to 1 TB of storage) and provides performance of more than 200 MB per second. The system includes a replacement G5 air baffle for mounting two drives and providing an additional heat sink and a SATA PCI adapter card. It supports the Mac OS X software RAID, though drives can also be configured as individual volumes. It will be available Jan. 19 for $2,499.95 in a 1 TB configuration or $1,495.95 for a 640 GB configuration.
Finally, WiebeTech has also introduced its new QuadFire, a 1U rackmount enclosure with four hot-swappable drive bays. Based on the Oxford922 bridge, the QuadFire is a FireWire 800-based RAID that provides performance up to 200 MB pr second, with daisychainable access for FireWire and USB 2.0 for each bay. It sells for $379.95 to $3,199.95 in configurations ranging from 160 GB to 1 TB and is expected to ship Jan. 26.
