Western Digital Ships 200 GB Drivezilla

New model built on 7,200 RPM mechanism By Dave Nagel
Western Digital has announced a new 200 GB Drivezilla hard drive, a new addition to the company's Caviar Special Edition line. The drive offers an 8 MB cache and uses a 7,200 RPM mechanism. It's available now.

Western Digital says the 8 MB buffer on the Caviar Special Edition 200 GB hard drives "provide a higher percentage of cache hits and significantly faster time to data than industry-standard 2 MB versions. The larger buffer improves performance because there is a reduction in the number of physical accesses to the disk." Western Digital's Special Edition hard drives are now available in capacities of 40 GB, 60 GB, 80 GB, 100 GB, 120 GB, 180 GB and 200 GB.

The company has also adopted a new warranty policy effective Oct. 1, 2002. WD Caviar Special Edition hard drives are covered under warranty for a three-year period. The 200 GB Drivezilla is available now. For more information, visit http://www.westerndigital.com.
