Web Conferencing on Touch Devices: iPad Passes Muster, but Smartphones Fail to Impress, Says

  (April 08, 2011)

Frankfurt, Germany (PRWEB) April 8, 2011

The iPad is the only touch device to support full-fledged web conferencing functionality. Smartphones' small screens are an obstacle to online interaction. These are the findings of a recent market survey by The independent portal tested and compared 36 online meeting tools for iPad, iPhone, Android and BlackBerry. Of the 8 apps available for the iPad, the best are WebEx, Saba Centra and Teamviewer.

According to the portal, 10 vendors offer online meeting tools for iPhones, while 4 provide solutions for Android and 4 for BlackBerry. All solutions support uninterrupted data transmission, while the iPad apps delivered high resolution images.

However, the results confirm that mobile web conferencing is still in its infancy. The full gamut of web conferencing functionality - including transferring control of the mouse and keyboard, changing presenters, accessing a variety of applications, and collaborating on documents in real-time - is currently not available on touch devices - not even on the iPad. In fact, current services could be described as "look, but don't touch".

In future, the portal will take performance on mobile devices into account when ranking web conferencing solutions.
