We Interview Lynda Weinman of Lynda.com

By David Basulto

When I started down the road to digital filmmaking I realized there was much to learn technologically. Sure I had made many movies before but now the masses were able to do it all themselves with amazing digital tools that could be used on a home pc. I sought out any and all learning channels but going across town in rush hour, once a week, for ungodly sums of money wasnt my cup of tea.

Luckily I purchased a book called After Effects 6 Hands on Training. After scouring through the book I realized I really enjoyed the process the author took me through. I now had a solid foundation. On the book I say a link for Lynda.com. I went there and was hooked immediately.

Lynda.com allows me to learn my favorite programs. I can pick and choose certain areas I may want to enhance too. The site had 24/7 access to over 20,000 video tutorials complete with lesson file downloads. Programs like Cinema 4D, Maya, Photoshop, Final Cut Pro are on the list.

Yes I am a Lynda.com junkie. I love the freedom I now have to learn. I also love that I can use the site as a quick reference in case I need to brush up on a program I havent used in awhile.

Todays show I had the great pleasure to speak with Lynda Weinman herself. Her journey from effects artist on feature films such as Star Wars to online learning guru is inspiring. Enjoy!
