Village Voice Media's Local Network Doubles Revenue and Continues to Grow at Rapid Pace; Gothamist Joins Voice Local NetworkPopular City Blog Network Will Use Village Voice Media Holdings' Hyper-Local Ad Network to Increase Monetization (November 17, 2010)
PHOENIX, AZ -- (Marketwire) -- 11/17/10 -- The Village Voice Media Holdings, LLC (VVMH) family of companies, which includes 14 metro-area alt-weekly print publications and 20 online properties, today announced that publishers advertising on the Voice Local Network have doubled revenue made through the network in 2010. Voice Local Network has VVM's hyper-local sales platform for national and local sites that fit into the nightlife, food, entertainment and lifestyle verticals.
The company also announced that Gothamist network has joined Voice Local Network. As a publisher partner, Gothamist LLC, the operator of 12 city-centric blogs worldwide that focus on news, events, food, culture, and other local coverage, will be able to better monetize its New York property, Gothamist.com, using VLN's locally based sales forces.
"Gothamist is all about serving our local readers, so joining Voice Local Network was a natural fit," said Gothamist Publisher Jake Dobkin. "This partnership will give Gothamist.com the advantage of adding Village Voice Media's strong New York-based salesforce in to our advertising strategy. This is going to enable us to dig deeper into the communities we serve and get closer to our audiences, which is our top goal in everything we do."
Gothamist's urban-centric blog audience is ideal for Voice Local Network, which is designed for online publishers that fall under the same content verticals as Village Voice Media's publications and reach similar readers to Village Voice Media's 18-to-34-year-old core demographic. According to Quantcast, the majority of Gothamist.com's nearly 1 million monthly visitors fit into that same age demographic.
"Since Voice Local Network has launched, we've carefully molded it in to a successful model for niche Web publishers like Gothamist.com -- a good way for them to achieve high CPM across the board, while showing real value for over 160 current advertisers running on our partner sites from the local level," said Scott Tobias, Village Voice Media Holdings President and COO. "Each month, VLN surpasses our previous month's numbers -- we see nothing but growth ahead."
Voice Local Network is focused on bridging the gap between great content and sustainable monetization by giving niche web publishers the sales muscle of a national media company. With salesforces built up in virtually every major market over the past 50 years, VLN provides quality web sites with high CPM, geo-targeted ads from local restaurants, bars, clubs, retail and services. Gothamist joins current Voice Local Network publisher partners including Curbed.com, Eater.com, Checkoutmyink.com, Urbanspoon, social recommendation engine LikeMe.Net and other sites that match up to the nightlife, food, entertainment and lifestyle categories.
