ViewCast's Osprey-500 Now Streaming Neutral

(September 04, 2001)
ViewCast Corporation announced that its Osprey-500 video capture card, originally designed in close collaboration with Microsoft, is now streaming neutral and supports all software applications requiring capture from digital and analog video/audio sources such as cameras and tape decks.

In addition, prices have been reduced, effective Sept. 3, to $895
-- a 10 percent reduction -- for the analog/DV-only model and $1995 -- a 20 percent reduction -- for the fully featured DV Pro version.

Previously, the Osprey-500 only enabled the Windows Media Encoder to create a Windows Media streaming format directly from a video/audio source and WMCap, an audio/video capture application, to capture raw media from the Osprey-500 to an AVI file. This limited the market for the Osprey-500, as some content-creation workflow environments utilize other applications for pre-processing, editing, and conversion to different streaming and archive formats.

Effective Sept. 5, new drivers for the O-500 will be available for free download from www.ospreyvideo.com. Making the Osprey-500 streaming neutral gives customers the ability to use the Osprey-500 with a broader range of software applications -- including Windows Media Encoder, RealNetworks' RealSystem Producer, Adobe Premier 6.0, Media 100's Cleaner 5, Sorrenson Broadcaster and other leading applications -- as well as streaming directly to Windows Media and Real formats.

The Osprey-500 is the first professional-grade video capture card designed specifically for the capture of broadcast-quality digital video for streaming media. The Osprey-500 creates pure end-to-end digital video for streaming and removes video-quality degradation caused by the multi-step video-conversion process of the first generation of existing capture cards and software. It also allows anyone with a digital video (DV) camera to plug into the world of streaming media without any loss in quality.
