View Sundance Online Film Festival Films and Movie Trailers via Kontiki Delivery Network

(January 10, 2002)
Kontiki, which enables companies to securely and efficiently deliver video and other digital media over the Internet, announced today its technology is making it possible for the 2002 Sundance Film Festival to offer visitors to its Web site the ability to view movie trailers and short film and animation works in full-screen, smooth, TV-quality video. The Sundance Film Festival begins today in Park City, Utah, and runs through January 20, 2002.

Kontiki is providing the technology to allow quality viewing of 25 independent films and animations created specifically for the web for the Sundance Online Film Festival, which is part of the Sundance Film Festival. In addition, the company is providing the technology that lets visitors to the Sundance Online Resource Center Web site view movie trailers for films being shown at the festival.

While online videos from the Sundance Film Festival have been offered in previous years, 2002 is the first year Internet users can view selected movie trailers and short works from independent filmmakers that preserves the quality of the filmmakers' work.

"Sundance is the showcase for the best in filmmaking, from established film producers to new independents," said Rex Ishibashi, Kontiki's vice president of corporate development. "Due to previous technology limitations, it has been impossible to do justice to Sundance films when viewed over the Internet. We're pleased to be able to harness the Kontiki technology and delivery network to bring these works directly to users' PCs, with the quality that protects the integrity of the work," he said.

"The Sundance Film Festival continually strives to integrate the best new technologies to enhance the user experience - whether they are attending the festival or gathering information online," said RJ Millard, Press Officer & Digital Media Development, Sundance Film Festival. "Kontiki enables a technology element we have never had before, and gives our visitors a high-quality experience when viewing the work of both well-known and emerging filmmakers."

The Sundance Online Film Festival showcases a selection of new work developed specifically for the Web. Features include animation, live-action, documentary, interactive, new form and selected shorts for the short film showcase. Users will have the option to stream the video or use Kontiki to download the films for top quality viewing. The URL is: .

Internet users can view full-screen trailers of selected films when visiting . Users should choose the option called "Download Full Screen." The user will be able to both download the video and Kontiki seamlessly, and play the video in television quality on their PC screen.

Kontiki is able to provide full-screen, smooth, TV-quality video through its proprietary technology called Bandwidth Harvesting. The technology caches content at the outer edges of the Internet and smoothes spiky bandwidth consumption patterns, solving today's Internet bottlenecks, which have frustrated users and deterred companies from distributing more digital content via the Internet.
