VertigoXmedia Suite Integrates With Avid NLEs(April 13, 2005)
Users of Avid nonlinear editing systems (NLEs) can now easily leverage the functionality of VertigoXmedia's MOS-compliant Xmedia Suite from within the Avid interface, extending use of Vertigo's popular live production toolset to support Avid-based pre- and post-production as well. The new VertigoNLX plug-in provides direct access to VertigoXmedia's powerful data-driven graphics templates, automatically inserting data sources -- such as financial and news wire information -- into graphics and rendering them directly into the recorded program.
"With the VertigoNLX plug-in, Avid users can access the Xmedia toolset directly from the NLE, streamlining the editing process by eliminating the time spent moving in and out of various applications to access and render graphics and other source material," said VertigoXmedia President and CEO David Wilkins. "We're providing television and cable networks with a new way to enhance flexibility and productivity throughout their entire broadcast workflows. VertigoNLX provides a bridge between different departments within a facility, allowing staff in the edit bay to select a template that was already used by a network's live news production team and then repurpose it for rendering into recorded programming for later playout."
With Vertigo's templated approach to graphics automation, a library of "smart" templates is stored in the central Xmedia Server, where users throughout the facility can access them. Because the Vertigo templates include pre-programmed logic as well as links to dynamic data sources, information is automatically updated as soon as the template is opened, without manual intervention. Operators can further customize the templates simply by selecting data and partial- or full-screen graphics elements from drop-down menus or by typing in key words. The VertigoNLX plug-in incorporates the company's VertigoXG rendering software to render both static and animated graphics directly into the video timeline. Video clips created from the automated graphic templates can be stored in the Xmedia Server and published to the appropriate production system for playout whenever needed.
