Vangent's John George Awarded Commercial IT Executive of the Year AwardGeorge Selected From a Group of 26 Semi-Finalists in the Commercial IT Category by the Tech Council of Maryland in the Only Awards Celebration Exclusively for the Mid-Atlantic IT Community (November 10, 2008)
ARLINGTON, VA -- (Marketwire) -- 11/10/08 -- Vangent, Inc., a leading global provider of information management and strategic business process outsourcing solutions, announced today that John George, Chief Information Officer of Vangent, was awarded the prestigious CIO/CTO of the Year Award by the Tech Council of Maryland last week. Mr. George was selected from a group of 26 semi-finalists in the Commercial IT category.
"We are proud to have John as a leader at Vangent," said Mac Curtis, President and CEO of Vangent, Inc. "He and his entire team accomplished an amazing feat. In just six months, they stood up a new IT infrastructure and enterprise ERP system which allowed us to function as a stand-alone company after separating from our parent company, Pearson plc. Without them, it would not have been possible for Vangent to be the successful company it is today."
In support of Vangent's transition to a stand-alone company, Mr. George led Vangent's implementation of a new information technology infrastructure which included new back-office business systems, a state-of-the-art enterprise network, hardened data centers, and a virtualized computing environment.
Mr. George was faced with the challenge of separating the new Vangent from 25-plus years of the existing parent company infrastructure. Rather than adopt legacy programs and processes, he took the opportunity to create a new IT infrastructure to support the new entity. The strategy was two-fold: consolidate and implement an enterprise resource planning (ERP) system and implement a state-of-the-art infrastructure that improved efficiencies. All this was accomplished without significant capital investments allowing the company to invest its capital in growing the business.
"The award is a tribute to Vangent's entire IT team. They took on the challenge and together we executed an exceptional plan," said John George. "I am proud to accept this award on their behalf."
The Tech Council of Maryland (TCM) is the largest technology trade serving the advanced technology and biotechnology communities of Maryland, the nation's second-largest technology hub. Last week's event marks TCM's third year of sponsoring the CIO/CTO awards, the only awards celebration exclusively for the Mid-Atlantic IT community.
