Vail's TV8 Entrusts Program Playout to Omneon SpectrumDeploys Spectrum media server for storage and playout at newly completed digital broadcast facility (December 15, 2005)
Omneon Video Networks today announced that TV8/TV17 -- a division of Vail Resorts, the leading mountain resort operator in the United States -- has deployed an Omneon Spectrum media server system for storage and playout at its newly completed digital broadcast facility. TV8/TV17, both licensed low-power television (LPTV) stations, completed the project with the assistance of systems integrator Beck Associates, which integrated the new server system with NVerzion automation to enable reliable and straightforward program playout via a user-friendly interface.
"We selected the Omneon Spectrum media server system for our new automated master control system because it has a long record of successful implementations at major broadcast facilities around the world and it integrates well with our automation system of choice," said TV8 Director of Television Operations Craig Struve. "The Omneon system is easy for our staff to work with and it will be easy to maintain or expand should our storage or playout requirements change."
TV8 and TV17 are affiliates of RSN, the premier resort television network, and the two channels are broadcast from East Vail to Gypsum, Colo. The high cost of real estate in Vail necessitated a combination master control room, central equipment room, and production control room, and Beck Associates used its extensive experience in space planning and integration to pack it all into fewer than 350 square feet.
In building this new infrastructure for program playout, the station integrated an Omneon server system to provide reliable playout of both channels and ensure uninterrupted delivery of popular programming including the No. 1-rated news and information program, "Good Morning Vail." The proven combination of NVerzion control and the Omneon Spectrum system provides flexible and scalable playout for both prerecorded and live programming.
"The TV8 installation demonstrates that Omneon server solutions are as adaptable to small television facilities as they are to larger, more complex multichannel installations," said Geoff Stedman, Omneon's vice president of worldwide marketing. "Our goal is to provide cost-effective server systems suited to individual broadcasters' needs, and we're very pleased that TV8 has entrusted an Omneon Spectrum system with the station's valuable local programming."
An exceptionally cost-effective and flexible media server designed for the professional television industry, the Omneon Spectrum media server is built on an open architecture that allows it to support a broad variety of third-party applications for control and transmission, media management, archiving, and collaborative production. The scalable, distributed architecture of the modular Omneon Spectrum server system delivers maximum flexibility in scaling system components and capacity in small or large increments as desired.
