VISTAGY Announces Partnership with National Science Foundationfor e-Design (March 17, 2006)
VISTAGY, Inc., the developer of engineering software that provides specialized design functionality for commercial CAD/PDM/PLM systems, today announced an alliance with the National Science Foundation (NSF) Center for e-Design. The organizations are sharing technology and engineering expertise to build applications that will help engineers make more accurate, informed decisions early in product development to revolutionize design and manufacturing processes.
The Center for e-Design serves as a national center for design excellence through the use of information technology. Its goal is to research, develop and test technologies that support virtualization and enable a systems-engineering approach to design. VISTAGY has contributed its EnCapta(r) software technology and is currently working with Center for e-Design members, including the University of Massachusetts at Amherst, to develop specialized engineering applications. These applications will utilize intelligent descriptions of product designs and analysis models to automatically provide engineers with appropriate and accurate feedback from the best available analyses. The design applications will be deployable on multiple commercial CAD platforms and will access analyses using Web services, eliminating the need for every analysis tool to be available on each engineer's desktop. As a result, engineers will be able to make accurate, informed design decisions early in the design process, leading to better products that are developed faster.
"Today's Computer Aided Design (CAD) systems do not support efficient multi-disciplinary analysis during the design processes, making it difficult to develop innovative products and employ new materials and processes," said Ian Grosse, Director of the Intelligent Modeling, Analysis, and Design Laboratory <http://www.ecs.umass.edu/mie/labs/mda/fea> at the University of Massachusetts and Co-Director of the NSF Center for e-Design <http://www.e-designcenter.info/> . "In order to revolutionize the way products are conceived, designed and realized, we've teamed up with companies like VISTAGY as part of the Center for e-Design to create technologies, applications and methodologies that will drive product development achievements across many industries."

About the National Science Foundation Center for e-Design The National Science Foundation (NSF) is an independent federal agency that supports fundamental research and education across all fields of science and engineering. The Center for e-Design and Realization of Engineered Products and Systems is an NSF Industry/University Cooperative Research Center, merging the strengths of universities with industry partners. The NSF initially established the Center for e-Design and Realization of Engineered Products and Systems in 2003 at the University of Pittsburgh in collaboration with the University of Massachusetts Amherst. Since its establishment, the Center has added the University of Central Florida and Virginia Tech as participating universities, as well as a number of major industry partners to its membership. Approximately 20 industry technology providers and manufacturers are now members of the Center.
About VISTAGY, Inc. and EnCapta*
VISTAGY, Inc. develops engineering software that provides specialized functionality to significantly improve the value of commercial 3D CAD systems. VISTAGY's unique EnCapta* technology powers all of its applications and is used to rapidly create commercial off-the-shelf (COTS) software products that can be easily configured to meet engineering requirements specific to a particular task, product or development process. The resulting specialized engineering environments enable engineers to capture and communicate complete digital product definitions within CAD, thereby increasing productivity, improving the communication of product information throughout the product lifecycle and allowing better-informed decision-making early in design. VISTAGY software is used throughout the world in the aerospace, automotive, marine, medical, sporting goods and transportation interiors industries. The company also offers training and consulting services. For more information, contact VISTAGY in Waltham, Massachusetts, USA, at +1.781.250.6868 or visit www.vistagy.com.
