VFXTalk.com Highlights VFX on Doom FilmFramestore Artists on VFX for Universal?s New Blockbuster (March 24, 2006)
VFXTalk (www.vfxtalk.com) reveals a host of stunning visuals from the Universal Pictures blockbuster Doom?and the secrets to how they were created?in a new, in-depth interview with the films visual effects team (http://www.vfxtalk.com/forum/showthread.php?threadid=5183. Visual effects supervisor Jon Farhat joins several artists from Framestore CFC, lead visual effects provider for Doom, in providing detailed answers to questions submitted by VFXTalk members about their work in creating the films amazing imagery. Based on the popular video game, Doom has become an international hit and features some of the most complex and daring visual effects work of any recent film release. Englands Framestore CFC employed a team of some 50 artists to produce more than 130 visual effects shots for the film, including a dazzling first-person shooter scene spanning 7000 stunning frames.
In their interview, Farhat and the Framestore CFC crew discuss some of the challenges they faced and the unique methodologies they developed to overcome them. In so doing, they provide keen insight into how a team of talented digital artists pulled together to meet deadlines and solve technical glitches while turning out some of the most artistically satisfying work of their careers.
Many of the questions included in the interview were submitted by VFXTalk members. ?VFXTalk is unique in providing its members with direct access to the industrys top artists, said Karsten Becker, the sites editor. ?Its the best way to insure they get the information they want to know.
