VFGadgets.com To Distribute Target Chart SystemsTarget Multi Resolution and Target Multi Format Framing Chart Systems (July 08, 2004)
The Target Resolution Chart Kit was designed by Richard Stringer CSC for use with motion picture, photographic and digital stills lens testing. The charts use an innovative direct measurement system which utilizes center markings in photographic film and still cameras with reflex viewfinders to maintain consistent pattern sizing.
With Target you get a big bonus - NO MEASURING - you just line up the sizing in the viewfinder. There are no formulas, calculations or tables to refer to. You can test any focal length, even in-between settings on zoom lenses. The resolution charts shows there are 7 in-between patterns within a doubling progression from 40 to 80. This gives many more choices to work with and enables you to pinpoint a higher, more specific value than existing systems.
Target patterns are rendered the same size on film for easy comparison and have the actual values printed beside them. The corner charts have even finer patterns (to 408!). Target offer three choices of sizing - 120x, 60x, and 30x. This covers a wide variety of focal lengths and formats, and still keeps within practical distances. The 60x is for mid-range, the 120x for wide lenses, and the 30x for telephoto lenses. The kit comes with a comprehensive 20 page instruction manual.
The Target multi format framing chart kit, also by Stringer, was designed for image line up on a multi camera panorama motion picture or video project. It offers a quick, simple and accurate way to record frame lines. With two movable magnetic edge panels, you are not limited by pre-determined printed frame lines. These two panels allow for an instant choice of six indicated aspect ratio formats (1.33, 1.37, 1.55 or 14x9, 1.66 for Super 16mm, 1.78 or 16x9. and 1.85) plus a 2.35 / 2.40 anamorphic positioning. The panels can also be positioned for any unmarked aspect ratios. They offer great flexibility as you can easily correct for any viewfinder inaccuracies or lens distortion.
The Target multi format chart was designed to clearly show one format at a time (but can accommodate two as well as TV markings if needed). The system allows you to; define the principal frame format recorded, match camera framing on multi camera shots, provides feedback on any cutoff or lost information caused in post or transmission, set guidelines for any format combination to be delivered, check zoom tracking, and troubleshoot problems within a viewing system and compare reflex or video framing to other non-reflex or operational viewfinding systems. The kit comes with a complete 16 page instruction manual. The Target multi format framing chart kit will improve communication between the cinematographer and the transfer facility and will help eliminate a host of potentially frustrating and costly problems.
