VFGadgets.com Launches Road Ace 2 at NABPersonal mobile GPS navigation system and PDA (March 03, 2005)
Road Ace 2
The Road Ace 2 is unique in that it combines GPS with the functionality of a Personal Digital Assistant (PDA) making for an extremely compact, lightweight and highly versatile alternative to traditional navigation systems. It utilizes and comes with a Dell Axim X50 416 MHz X-scale processor Pocket PC PDA, Bluetooth equipped. (520 & 624 MHz models are also available) This new touch screen navigation system requires no installation, and can easily fit into a pocket and can be transferred to a production rental car, RV, motorcycle (mount for handlebars optional), or boat. It can even be operated as a mobile, hand held unit on the street or on location. It provides the ultimate in mobility.
The system includes all of the necessary hardware and software to be completely stand-alone. With safety in-mind, the in-car PDA based system will provide real time voice navigation commands, so the driver is never required to reference the screen while driving. The system has no monthly fees and costs a fraction of in-dash systems. One of the best aspects is you can use the PDA for other personal tasks other than road navigation.
High speed mapping software covers all of Canada, the United States (plus Hawaii, Alaska, Puerto Rico, US Virgin Islands, Midway Islands). Western European mapping software is also available as a separate disk set. The mapping data is stored on one 256 MB Secure Digital SD card with all major North American road mapping installed in the turnkey unit. US states reside on three CD ROMS, which can be transferred to the SD card when needed. Software can also be registered online, at any time, providing 375 days of additional update access from the time of registration. Marine and topographic maps are available as well.
By simply inputting the departure and destination information, the software will plot the best routes determined by routing options like ?quickest, ?shortest, ?scenic and whether highways, or toll roads should be preferred or avoided. You can also route to over 40+ categories of places and businesses. It also features very fast auto-rerouting should a blockage occur. The software comes with seven languages and 5 different voices too.
The system is mounted in the car by a windshield-mounted gooseneck cradle and speaker, which plugs into any 12-volt power supply. The vehicle mount has a strong suction grip, clearer speaker, external volume control, 4 pin ergonomic 90 degree 12 plug for trouble free charging, mobile phone charger and hands free speaker. The GPS antenna is accurate within 3 meters and connects directly into the PDA through a compact flash port on top of the PDA making for an exceptionally compact and precise unit. The GPS is always on and has faster satellite times and remembers last fix when traveling under bridges and tunnels.
