VBrick To Deliver Windows Media Video 9 In EtherneTV

To include support for Windows Media Video 9 in future video solutions (November 22, 2004)

VBrick Systems, Inc. (, the leader in affordable video over IP network solutions, today announced that it plans to incorporate Windows Media Video 9 into VBrick's award-winning EtherneTV system. EtherneTV provides a high-quality, cost-effective platform that delivers live video and on-demand services to viewers located anywhere on the network.

With this agreement, enterprises, educational institutions and government agencies can now choose from Windows Media Video 9 or standards such as MPEG-1, -2, and -4 to easily leverage video as an affordable and reliable means of communication. Combining EtherneTV with Windows Media Video 9 creates a cost-effective system with unprecedented scalability.

"Windows Media Video 9 will provide the additional flexibility our customers have been asking for," said Richard Mavrogeanes, founder and CTO of VBrick Systems. "VBrick is delighted to include this technology in our portfolio as it will help us to enhance our offerings and support mission-critical video applications when incorporated into our award-winning EtherneTV system."

"VBrick is a leader in networked IP video solutions. We look forward to working with them to introduce Windows Media Video 9 into the EtherneTV system," said Jonathan Usher, director of the Windows Digital Media Division at Microsoft Corp. "Together we can enhance the compression and delivery of high-quality, real-time video across data networks within any enterprise."

"The world of codecs is a series of complex tradeoffs. Windows Media strikes a good balance between compression efficiency, computational complexity and affordability. This balance allows for the implementation of real-time encoding on today's DSPs," said Mavrogeanes. "By including Windows Media, we will be able to offer more options to our customers. In many cases, this will be the best codec choice for their needs. We support the work underway in SMPTE to standardize the technology as it is an important step for broader adoption, and encourage Microsoft to participate in additional appropriate standards bodies."
